If you are looking for Williamsburg VA homes for sale you will eventually need to take a break and get something to eat. If you have recently relocated in your search for Williamsburg homes you may not yet know the area enough to know what restaurants are available or whether or not they are good. Although there are many available places to eat in Williamsburg, some of my personal favorites are listed below to help you in your search for food while you are searching for Williamsburg real estate. Although not a complete list, these are a few of my personal favorites and I have included brief descriptions of each.

The Cheese Shop-Merchant’s Square | 410 D Duke of Gloucester Street | Williamsburg, VA 23185

This unique family owned shop boasts over 200 cheeses, specialty foods, freshly baked breads; amazing sandwiches and a 4,000+ bottle filled wine cellar. Terrific lunch destination!

Colonial Williamsburg – Taverns:

Admission to Colonial Williamsburg is not required to eat at any of the taverns.

Chownings Tavern | Duke of Gloucester Street near Market Square | Williamsburg, VA 23185

Informal dining: indoors and outdoors. Pit barbeque, beef brisket, hot dogs, etc. A lot of fun after 5 p.m…Enjoy Gambols – light food and drinks, balladeers and games from 18th century Williamsburg.

Christiana Campbell’s Tavern | Waller Street near the Capitol | Williamsburg, VA 23185

Known for its crab cakes, Gloucester chicken, filet of beef with crab-stuffed shrimp, fritters, and spoon bread. This was one of George Washington’s favorite places to eat in Williamsburg! (Open seasonally)

King’s Arms Tavern | Duke of Gloucester Street | Williamsburg, VA 23185

The most elegant of the taverns, this tavern often served the statesmen and gentry. Well known for its peanut soup, fried oysters, lamb, pork tenderloin, prime rib, and pecan pie.

Shield’s Tavern | Duke of Gloucester Street | Williamsburg, VA 23185

This tavern will allow you to experience what an 18th Century Williamsburg Coffeehouse was like. Light food, pastries, wraps and gumbo. It also hosts the Williamsburg Tavern Ghost walks or talks nightly.

Cities Grille | 4511-C John Tyler Highway | Williamsburg, VA 23185

The menu features foods enjoyed in cities throughout the country. The preparation of these foods may include a region's style of cooking and indigenous ingredients. The open kitchen is the backdrop for the bustling, bistro-style atmosphere you will enjoy at Cities Grille.

All coffees are roasted on-site and are available for whole bean purchase. This locally-owned bistro serves delicious soups, sandwiches, desserts, quiches and pastries.

Fat Canary | 410 Duke of Gloucester Street | Williamsburg, VA 23185

Reservations are a definite for this award-winning restaurant. Simply delicious!! Located conveniently in Merchant’s Square.

Florimonte’s Deli and Fine Foods | 5251 John Tyler Highway | Williamsburg, VA 23188

If you’re moving from New York, you’ll appreciate Florimonte’s traditional NY style deli and pizzeria!

Guiseppe’s Italian Café | 5601-1 Richmond Road | Williamsburg, VA 23188

A local “best” hangout. True Northern and Southern Italian style food at reasonable prices. Terrific wine selection and casual atmosphere as well.

Hog Wild Smokehouse | 8864 – A Richmond Road | Toano, VA 23168

A traditional smokehouse and barbeque joint. Authentic Creole cuisine that features fresh soups, salads appetizers, sandwiches and more.

Old Chickahominy House | 1211 Jamestown Road | Williamsburg, Va 23185

A plantation setting to enjoy breakfast or lunch meals. Family recipes have delighted clients for 51 years. Shop in their unique gift store too!

Papillon and 415 Grill | 415 Richmond Road  | Williamsburg, VA 23185

Located in Williamsburg’s Hospitality House, offers up salads, sandwiches, chops and steaks. Home of a popular lunch pasta bar, this warm and relaxing atmosphere is perfect for dinner and a cocktail.


Sal’s by Victor Italian Restaurant | 1242 Richmond Road | Williamsburg, VA 23188

Family style Italian Restaurant. Great family restaurant serving and preparing delicious and fresh pastas, veal, chicken and sauces. Great for large groups too!

Second Street An American Bistro | 140 Second Street | Williamsburg VA 23185

This locally owned restaurant has been in business for 20 years! It has recently undergone major renovations that are terrific! Signature steaks, burgers, wraps, crab cakes and much more!

The Trellis | 403 Duke of Gloucester St. | Williamsburg, VA 23285

The trellis is a local favorite. This nationally acclaimed restaurant features regional items, many of which are grilled over an open fire. Try the cheesecake for lunch (not what you’re thinking!) and Death by Chocolate for dessert!

Whitehall Restaurant | 1325 Jamestown Road | Williamsburg, VA 23185

This truly authentic European fine dining restaurant is worth a visit. Cozy atmosphere, delicious food. Try the separate small plates menu!
